Is Trump Going to Tear Down the Kennedy Center?
"As if we don't have enough on our plate already, Trump is now talking about doing to the Kennedy Center what he is already doing to the White House. That is, renovating it to the point of being unrecognizable. On Grammy Sunday, Trump posted to Truth Social that he's planning on closing the Trump Kennedy Center on July 4 for "Construction, Revitalization, and Complete Rebuilding." (His caps, not ours.)"
""I have determined that the fastest way to bring The Trump Kennedy Center to the highest level of Success, Beauty, and Grandeur, is to cease Entertainment Operations for an approximately two year period of time, with a scheduled Grand Reopening that will rival and surpass anything that has taken place with respect to such a Facility before," he wrote. The back-and-forth between Trump and the Kennedy Center has been going on since the president retook office in 2025."
Trump posted to Truth Social that he plans to close the Trump Kennedy Center on July 4 for 'Construction, Revitalization, and Complete Rebuilding.' The planned closure would suspend entertainment operations for approximately two years and include a scheduled grand reopening intended to rival any prior events at the facility. The plan requires board approval; the administration stacked the Kennedy Center board with Trump loyalists after the president retook office in 2025. Trump renamed the building after himself, a change that remains tied up in court. The administration's board changes prompted many artists to withdraw from scheduled performances, most recently Philip Glass.
