Inside the anti-'woke' revolt that has American troops in its crosshairs
"Signing off for awhile. Facebook is just too awful a reminder of where we find ourselves,"
"Awful to see the number of people who say this is the fault of one side and in no way related to the proliferation of guns or the devolution of political discourse."
"Team Woke is still holding the levers."
"We're not liberals. That's what I think is so laughable about some of this. Nothing Amy said was hateful."
Colonel Amy Nieman, a 24-year Army veteran and senior JAG officer at Fort Campbell, posted a private Facebook message expressing distress over reactions to Charlie Kirk's death. An Army veteran, Sam Shoemate, posted a screenshot of her private post on X and relayed an anonymous tipster message claiming 'Team Woke' influence. Nieman's home address briefly appeared online and she was suspended as staff judge advocate of the 101st Airborne Division. Nieman and her husband, retired Special Forces major Seth Nieman, say they are not liberals and that her comments were not hateful. The episode forms part of a wider campaign targeting so-called 'woke' ideology in the military, prompting leaks, accusations, and unrest among active-duty personnel.
