"There is even a slush fund they use to pay people off with your tax dollars. This is part of why the system is so broken. They're sitting on reports, and if someone steps out of line, they use it against them, but if you're part of the club, nothing happens to you."
"I support Representative Mace's subpoena here, as well as the amendment to it. And I just think it's really disgusting how this institution protects itself because y'all just, half of them, voted to send this stuff to House Ethics, where you know it's gonna die."
"We know that members of Congress are using taxpayer dollars to pay off sexual harassment. We just had a member of Congress literally sexual harass a woman that then lit herself on fire, and you guys all protect him."
During a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing on Gov. Tim Walz, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna criticized her colleagues for protecting members accused of sexual misconduct. She highlighted a congressional slush fund allegedly used to pay off harassment victims with taxpayer money. Luna specifically called out the inconsistency of supporting Rep. Nancy Mace's subpoena motion while refusing to condemn Rep. Tony Gonzales, whose text messages showed sexual advances toward a staffer who later died by suicide. Luna argued that Congress deliberately sends ethics complaints to the House Ethics Committee where they die, enabling the institution to protect itself rather than hold members accountable.
