"You kill people and break things for a living. You are not politically correct and don't necessarily belong always in polite society."
"No more beards, long hair, superficial individual expression. We're going to cut our hair, shave our beards, and adhere to standards,"
"This is what you get when you install the Saturday morning news guy as secretary of defense."
"Secretary Kegstand."
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth convened 800 senior US military leaders at Quantico and framed the gathering as a liberation of a 'warrior ethos.' He told officers, "You kill people and break things for a living. You are not politically correct and don't necessarily belong always in polite society." The assembled leaders offered no applause or laughter. Hegseth announced new grooming standards banning beards and long hair. The beard prohibition disproportionately affects Black servicemembers who may suffer painful shaving-related skin conditions. Some critics and attendees mocked or criticized the secretary's background and tone.
