Lummis previously deferred to colleagues and initially expressed indifference but later described the revelation as shocking and worth investigating. Members of Congress are permitted to view the files on Department of Justice terminals, revealing allegations some observers characterize as evidence of a global network. President Trump previously labeled the release effort a Democratic hoax and criticized Republicans who supported disclosure. Lummis will not seek reelection and will leave office in January 2027.
