Polls show Greenland overwhelmingly opposes becoming part of the United States, and Denmark, which claims Greenland as an autonomous territory, said it was not interested in a deal ceding the island. Republican Rep. Don Bacon called the idea unreasonable and warned that an invasion would likely end the president's tenure. Bacon said many Republicans might cross party lines to remove the president over threats toward a longstanding ally.
