Good Morning, News: Trump Launches Another Desperate Appeal, ICE Kidnappings Up 550 Percent, and Epstein's Damning Emails
"If you're reading this, you probably know the value of the Mercury' s newsreporting, arts and culture coverage, event calendar, and the bevy of events we host throughout the year. The work we do helps our city shine, but we can't do it without your support. If you believe Portland benefits from smart, local journalism and arts coverage, please consider making a small monthly contribution, because without you, there is no us. Thanks for your support!"
"* This just in: Loser Trump hates losing. (And yet keeps setting himself up for losses? I don't get it, either.) Anyway, following Judge Immergut's final ruling against the federal government on November 7-banning King Fool from sending National Guard troops to Oregon-last night the DOJ decided to file an emergency request to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals asking them to stop the judge's order. Probably correctly sensing their request is going to be shot down, they also asked that, if they refuse, to at least allow Oregon's National Guard to stay under federal control until the full appeal could be heard."
"The TL;DR version? The DOJ is hoping the decision will once again go before a three-person team of Trump judges in a desperate, hail Mary attempt to save face and allow the president to keep a smidgen of the power he so desperately craves. But even then, if the Trumpy judges agree to pause Immergut's ruling, it will most likely go back before the FULL Ninth Circuit Court who-just like last time-will issue a ruling of "BITCH, PLEASE." (The best result will be Trump finally discovering that Portland is the very least of his problems. Epstein's island, anyone?)"
A local newsroom requests small monthly contributions to sustain newsreporting, arts coverage, event listings, and hosted events that support the city. Weather forecasts predict daily showers or cloudy skies with highs in the low 50s for the week. Following Judge Immergut's November 7 ruling barring presidential deployment of National Guard troops to Oregon, the Department of Justice filed an emergency request to the Ninth Circuit seeking to halt the order or temporarily keep Oregon's Guard under federal control until appeal resolution. The DOJ aims for a three-judge panel review, likely facing a full Ninth Circuit reversal. California's roughly 200 National Guard troops are also referenced.
