Erik Bottcher won the New York State Senate special election for District 47 with 91.8% of the vote as 88% of ballots were counted, defeating Republican Charlotte Friedman, who received 7.5%. Friedman's campaign platform included fighting socialism, eradicating antisemitism, and removing "illegal aliens... [are] removed promptly." Bottcher pledged to be a relentless advocate for safer streets, more affordable housing, reliable transit, and an economy that rewards work and treats people with dignity. Bottcher will replace Brad Hoylman-Sigal and shifted from a congressional bid to focus on immediate state-level issues including housing, mental health, and environmental safeguards.
