Four charged with plotting to sneak Nvidia chips into China
"Prosecutors say the quartet conspired between September 2023 and November 2025 to push restricted Nvidia GPUs into the PRC via Malaysia and Thailand, despite knowing that Commerce Department rules had tightly restricted such exports since October 2022. The DOJ says that China is aggressively pursuing US AI technology to fuel military modernization, weapons development, and large-scale surveillance systems, making the chips subject to strict license requirements."
"At the heart of the operation, prosecutors claim, was Janford Realtor LLC, a Tampa-based company owned by Ho and Li. Despite the name, Janford didn't sell a single house, but rather allegedly served as a front to buy and ship controlled Nvidia silicon overseas. Raymond, via his Alabama electronics business, allegedly supplied GPUs to Ho and others knowing that they were headed for China."
Four U.S. residents were arrested and federally charged for allegedly conspiring to export restricted Nvidia AI GPUs to China using shell companies, falsified invoices, and covert routing. The conspiracy allegedly ran from September 2023 to November 2025, routing shipments through Malaysia and Thailand despite Commerce Department export restrictions beginning October 2022. Janford Realtor LLC, owned by two defendants, allegedly served as a front to purchase and ship controlled Nvidia silicon overseas. An Alabama electronics business allegedly supplied GPUs knowing they were destined for China. Prosecutors say 400 A100 GPUs reached the PRC and law enforcement disrupted shipments of H100- and H200-equipped systems. Defendants allegedly did not apply for required export licenses and misrepresented shipment destinations.
