The Senate voted to fund most of the government through the end of September after President Trump reached an agreement with Democrats to carve out Homeland Security funding and permit debate on new restrictions for federal immigration raids. Homeland Security funding will continue at current levels for two weeks while lawmakers consider Democratic demands to unmask agents, require more warrants and allow local authorities to assist investigations. The bill passed 71-29 and now moves to the House, creating a risk of a brief weekend partial shutdown. Lawmakers called for investigations after two protesters were killed by federal agents in Minneapolis. Some Republicans criticized the concessions while others said changes to ICE operations may be necessary.
