Heather Ammel alleges that Kyrsten Sinema pursued her husband, Matthew Ammel, despite knowing he was married. The head of Sinema's security hired Matthew Ammel after he retired from the Army in 2022, and he accompanied Sinema on trips to Napa Valley, Las Vegas and Saudi Arabia. Ammel's wife discovered romantic and lascivious Signal messages in early 2024. That summer he stopped wearing his wedding ring. Sinema allegedly gave him a position as a national security fellow while he continued as a campaign bodyguard and paid for psychedelic treatment as Ammel struggled with PTSD, substance abuse and traumatic brain injuries. The suit was filed in Moore County, North Carolina, later moved to federal court. North Carolina permits alienation-of-affection claims. Sinema left the Senate after the 2024 election and now works at Hogan Lovells.
