Mark Penn criticized Zohran Mamdani's win in New York City's Democratic primary, labeling it a critical moment for the Democratic Party. He noted that Mamdani's supporters are mainly young, college-educated individuals earning $100,000, contrasting with the struggling working-class voters who backed Cuomo. Penn expressed concern that these educated young people, having benefited from privilege, misguidedly believe in free benefits. He described Mamdani as an anti-Semitic socialist, suggesting that both elements are crucial in political discourse surrounding his campaign.
Mamdani's base of support is college-educated young people making $100,000; the struggling working class voted for Cuomo. So what is it with these young, educated people who have everything and maybe they've always gotten it for free, and therefore they think getting it for free is really the way it should work?
This is a 9-1-1 moment for the Democratic Party, in the sense that he's an anti-Semitic socialist. I think you have to throw both of those things at him.
