Regardless, the analyst had cleared every background check and had a visa to work in the country. None of it mattered, it seems, to ICE which, not too long ago, was just another branch of federal law enforcement with a mission to protect this country from real criminal threats."

City Council states the analyst had no criminal record, though ICE disputes that. ICE operations have included masked agents apprehending immigrants in immigration court at 26 Federal Plaza, aggressive street actions in Chinatown targeting vendors and protesters, and heavily armed entries and use of force in Minneapolis, including a shooting, pepper-spraying near schools, and warrantless home entries. Calls exist for New York and other states to take action against these practices.
