President Donald Trump committed the United States to rebuild Venezuela's oil industry and to run the country temporarily to enable a transition after the capture and arrest of Nicolas Maduro by American forces. The plan contemplates deploying U.S. troops and directing Venezuela's vice president to take orders from the U.S. Venezuela holds the world's largest proven oil reserves, but production and the economy have collapsed amid sanctions and mismanagement. The U.S. intends to rebuild rotted and dangerous oil infrastructure, financed via oil company payments and reimbursements, a process analysts estimate could take years to a decade.
