Donald Trump Declares War on Anthropic

"President Trump posted on Truth Social that all federal agencies must "IMMEDIATELY CEASE all use of Anthropic's technology," adding: "We don't need it, we don't want it, and will not do business with them again!" The General Services Administration announced that it would take action against Anthropic's products, and access to Anthropic was suspended "immediately" on the USAi platform."

"Anthropic was awarded a $200 million contract with the Pentagon last summer geared toward providing versions of its technology for military use. Claude models are the only advanced generative-AI programs to receive Pentagon security clearance permitting the handling of secret and classified data. Claude had been integrated across the Department of Defense and was reportedly used to assist the raid on Venezuela."

"Anthropic has said that it will not allow Claude to be used for mass domestic surveillance or to enable fully autonomous weaponry, which could involve applications such as Claude selecting and killing targets with drones, and analyzing data that have been indiscriminately gathered on Americans by the intelligence community."

President Trump issued an order requiring all federal agencies to immediately stop using Anthropic's technology, with the General Services Administration suspending access to Anthropic products on the USAi platform and removing the company from the primary federal procurement system. Anthropic had received a $200 million Pentagon contract last summer for military applications, and its Claude models were the only advanced AI systems granted security clearance for handling classified data. Claude was integrated across the Department of Defense and reportedly assisted in military operations. The termination follows a standoff between Trump and Anthropic, which has maintained policies against allowing Claude for mass domestic surveillance or fully autonomous weapons systems. The Pentagon is now demanding unrestricted use of Claude.
