DOJ Says IRS Is "Forever Barred" from Investigating Trump Family Tax Returns

A DOJ memo states the IRS is “forever barred” from investigating past tax returns of President Trump, his family, company, and related companies. The memo follows a DOJ announcement of a $1.776 billion “anti-weaponization” fund intended to compensate people who claim they were prosecuted for political reasons. The fund is expected to benefit individuals including January 6 insurrectionists and other Trump allies. The arrangement is described as an agreement between DOJ and President Trump’s personal attorneys in exchange for Trump dropping a $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS over leaked tax returns. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche will appoint commissioners overseeing the fund.
