Attorneys for Rümeysa Öztürk requested a federal judge restore her SEVIS student record after Immigration and Customs Enforcement removed it following her detention. Öztürk was detained by federal authorities in March and held six weeks in a Louisiana facility before a judge ordered her release. Since returning to campus in May, she has been unable to participate in teaching and research roles central to her graduate program. SEVIS is managed by the Department of Homeland Security and houses international student records. Government counsel contends the SEVIS record was terminated because her visa was revoked and she was deemed removable.
