Aftyn Behn, a staunch supporter of LGBTQ+ rights and a progressive Democrat, narrowly lost a special election to Republican Matt Van Epps in Tennessee's 7th district, trailing by nine points with 95 percent of votes counted. The district had supported Trump by 22 points in 2024 and was shaped through Republican gerrymandering to include parts of Nashville and nearby rural counties. Behn's campaign emphasized affordability. Republicans highlighted her LGBTQ+ positions and circulated a 2020 comment about both men and women being able to give birth.
