
A bill would prohibit the use of federal funds to create or make payments to the Trump administration’s Anti-Weaponization Fund. The fund stems from a settlement between Trump and the IRS after Trump sued the agency over the leaking of his tax returns. The fund would provide compensation to people who accused the federal government of politically motivated lawfare, including some Jan. 6 defendants. Two law enforcement officers who were at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, have sued to dissolve the fund. A Justice Department spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A discharge petition is being considered as a backup to force a vote if House Republican leadership blocks the measure.
