For nearly two hours, the Chicago Tribune reported, protesters trailed a border patrol convoy, documenting its movements through residential streets. According to local organizers, at least six people were detained, including US citizens who were protesting the operation."
Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino said his agents were shot at, subjected to vehicular and physical assaults, impeded by violent mobs, and faced vehicular blockades during enforcement operations in Chicago. The Department of Homeland Security said an unknown male in a black Jeep fired shots at agents near 26th Street and Kedzie Avenue and fled; the Chicago Police were called and cleared the scene. Chicago police said they found no signs of anyone struck by gunfire and reported one officer was struck by a vehicle, sustaining noncritical injuries. Social media showed heavily armed agents deploying tear gas and detaining at least six people, including protesters and U.S. citizens.
