Bay Area mayor called to resign after sharing Bondi Beach attack posts
"If Palestine were a schoolyard playground, I would be a Palestinian. And that part of me that couldn't endure the abuse any more would be Hamas,"
"dangerous, offensive, and unacceptable from any public official."
"Mayor Martinez's words and actions undermine trust and make Jewish residents feel unsafe in their own city,"
Richmond Mayor Eduardo Martinez is facing calls to resign after sharing LinkedIn posts that the Jewish Community Relations Council says appeared to blame Jews for the Dec. 14 Bondi Beach Hanukkah mass shooting. The council described the reposted rhetoric as dangerous, offensive, and unacceptable and cited a broader pattern, including Martinez's Aug. 29 remarks comparing himself to Hamas at a Palestine conference and an alleged hat bearing the phrase "DD TT IDF [Death Death to the IDF]." The council noted his support for a city council ceasefire resolution that did not condemn Hamas and said his actions make Jewish residents feel unsafe. Martinez published two LinkedIn posts on Dec. 17 and Dec. 18 apologizing for his activity and stating the posts did not reflect official city positions.
