Kamala Harris was in a Philadelphia hotel room hours before a pivotal debate with Donald Trump when Joe Biden phoned to wish her luck and asked if she would return to Philadelphia before the election. Biden told her that his brother had spoken to influential Philadelphia power brokers who reportedly would not support Harris because she had criticized his brother. Biden offered names and suggested Harris's team might be creating distance between them; Harris did not recognize the names and asked Biden to connect the group with her. Biden then discussed his own past debate performances, which Harris found distracting and upsetting.
