"Standing in the northern section of the park, she and her staff recalled the day in July that park goers and children attending summer camp were forced out as California National Guard troops and federal immigration agents arrived in vans and heavily armored vehicles. Mijente's Leadership Circle convened in Los Angeles with steering committee members from multiple states for annual strategic planning amid simultaneous immigration raids in members' cities. The raids in MacArthur Park displaced park goers and children at summer camp when California National Guard troops and federal immigration agents arrived in vans and heavily armored vehicles. Federal agents in tactical gear moved in formation, with some on horseback, as news helicopters hovered and demonstrators protested. Mayor Karen Bass, Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez and other lawmakers condemned the operation, which largely served as a Border Patrol promotional video. Local organizers coordinated sophisticated communication networks and volunteer training to alert and evacuate residents.
