Alameda County leaders are preparing two proposals to strengthen protections against federal immigration enforcement amid increased ICE activity linked to the Trump administration's crackdown in Minneapolis. Leaders plan to learn from cities such as Chicago, Portland, Los Angeles and Minneapolis and to coordinate with community partners to improve readiness. One proposal would restrict county resources from being used to support enforcement and would authorize county lawyers to sue if federal officers violate policy. A second proposal would create a countywide response plan, train employees on rights, install restricted-area signage and ensure client interactions occur in private areas.
