After Liam Ramos' release, Democrats turn focus to the rest of the kids detained by ICE
"ICE routinely detains children whose parents are arrested and targeted for deportation and creating detention space for families before they're deported has been a priority of the second Trump administration, Axios' Brittany Gibson notes. There's no direct data on the number of children in immigration custody, but nonprofit news outlet the Marshall Project's analysis in December found at least 3,800 3,800 children under age 18 had been detained in 2025 since President Trump took office."
""There are no beds, no real blankets, minimal food, extremely cold temperatures. People are in locked cells and leg shackles," she said. "Everything I saw showed me this operation is chaotic, disorganized, ineffective and dangerous," Morrison alleged. "I was also able to speak with two of the women who were being held there, and both of them shared harrowing experiences," she said."
ICE routinely detains children when parents are arrested and has expanded detention space for families prior to deportation. Nonprofit analysis reported at least 3,800 children under 18 detained in 2025 since the current administration began. Rep. Joaquin Castro escorted a detained five-year-old and his father from a Texas facility back to Minnesota and called for the release of detained children and families. Rep. Kelly Morrison reported lack of medical policy, no nurse on site, no beds or adequate blankets, minimal food, locked cells, and leg shackles, calling the operation chaotic, disorganized, ineffective and dangerous.
