Renee Good was killed by ICE agent Jonathan Ross on January 7, 2026, and video captured a man calling her a "fucking bitch" afterward. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem maligned Good as having committed domestic terrorism. The killing sparked national protests demanding justice for Good, a mother of three. A Wall Street Journal investigation found 13 instances of ICE firing into civilian vehicles since July 2025, with at least eight people shot and two killed. ICE detentions recorded 32 deaths in 2025, matching a two-decade-old record. ICE formed in 2003 during post-9/11 excesses, and DHS adopted a security framing that cast immigrants as inherent threats, continuing a history of racialized immigration restrictions.
