A dozen Columbia University students and faculty were arrested during a protest against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's crackdown on immigration after blocking Broadway and refusing police warnings to move. About 150 people participated, organized in part by CU Stands Up and the Columbia chapter of the Sunrise Movement, many wearing shirts reading "Sanctuary Campus Now" and "ICE Off Campus." Organizers said the arrested were charged with refusal to disperse and blocking vehicular traffic; they were released and instructed to appear in court on Feb. 23. An adjunct professor urged stronger university protection for international students, while Columbia said it supports peaceful protest and disputed claims made during the demonstration.
