Two National Guard members were shot near the White House Wednesday afternoon in Washington, D.C. The Metropolitan Police Department reported that one suspect is in custody. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem wrote on X that she was praying for the two guardsmen. President Trump posted on Truth Social that the two guardsmen have been critically wounded and described the shooter as also severely wounded, saying the shooter will pay a steep price. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the president has been briefed and that the White House is aware and actively monitoring the tragic situation. The incident is developing.
