"When the NYPD undercover engaged with Garza on social media, Garza described himself as a 21-year-old Mexican-American living in Texas. The plot culminated in a meeting last Monday, where Garza allegedly handed over bomb components to an undercover agent he referred to as an ISIS "brother." During the exchange, Garza reportedly explained how to mix the chemicals and suggested surrounding the device with nails to increase its lethality."
John Michael Garza Jr., 21, of Midlothian, Texas, was arrested Dec. 22 and charged with attempting to provide material support to ISIS after allegedly delivering explosive precursors and cash to undercover agents. The investigation began in mid-October 2025 when an undercover New York City Police Department employee flagged a social media account linked to Garza. Garza allegedly followed pro-ISIS accounts, sent official ISIS media releases and instructional materials on building explosives, and transferred small amounts of cryptocurrency meant to fund weapons and operations. Prosecutors allege he instructed on mixing chemicals and adding nails to increase device lethality.
