Terps keeping Locksley, will up funding, AD says
"We are working to strengthen our NIL support for 2026 and beyond, and have already seen success for next year,"
"We are prioritizing roster retention, recruiting and competing in the transfer portal."
"We are optimistic about the young talent in our program and where we are in recruiting,"
Maryland will retain Mike Locksley as head coach through 2026 as the athletic department commits to significantly increasing financial and NIL support. The Terps are 4-6 this season amid a six-game losing streak and went 4-8 last year after three consecutive bowl wins. The program plans to prioritize retaining key players, the promising freshman class and competitiveness in the transfer portal. Locksley is 37-47 in eight seasons and firing him would have cost more than $13 million. The 2025 recruiting class ranked No. 24 and includes several high-profile freshmen contributors.
