
"On Friday, Providence Police identified the man as Romy Alfonso, saying additional information will be released pending his autopsy results. At around 7:23 p.m. on Monday, patrol officers responded to the area of 249 Manton Ave. for a report of an assault, according to a statement from the Providence Police. Witnesses told the police that they saw several young people assault a man, "knocking him to the ground and repeatedly kicking and punching him before fleeing the area.""
"Officers found the man, later identified as Alfonso, and transported him to Rhode Island Hospital. But throughout the week detectives learned that his condition was deteriorating, and on Friday police announced that he had died from his injuries. After conducting an investigation, officers located three juveniles on Tuesday and took them into custody in the Manton Avenue area following a separate disturbance. During interviews with the children's guardians present, all three admitted to involvement in the earlier assault, police said."
A 51-year-old man, later identified as Romy Alfonso, was attacked on Monday evening in Providence and transported to Rhode Island Hospital. Detectives later learned his condition deteriorated and authorities announced his death from those injuries. Police located three juveniles the following Tuesday and, after interviews with guardians, the three admitted involvement; a fourth child was subsequently identified and apprehended. Prior to the death, the four children — three aged 12 and one 11 — faced felony assault and conspiracy charges and were ordered held at the Rhode Island Training School.
