Meta and Western Digital trim 100 South Bay jobs in additional layoffs
"Meta Platforms and Western Digital Technologies have both trimmed Bay Area jobs that will affect more than 100 workers in the region, marking a fresh round of layoffs for the still-shaky tech industry. Social media titan Meta, which owns the Facebook app, disclosed its plans to cut 102 jobs in two South Bay cities, according to a post on the state Employment Development Department website."
"Due primarily to a surge in technology hiring in the South Bay, the Bay Area added 200 tech jobs in December, according to seasonally adjusted industry numbers that Beacon Economics derived from the EDD monthly report. The South Bay added 1,800 tech jobs last month, while the San Francisco-San Mateo region lost a net total of 900, and the East Bay lost 600 tech positions, the Beacon assessment determined. The North Bay's metro areas lost a combined 100 tech jobs."
Meta Platforms will cut 102 Bay Area jobs, with 52 positions in Sunnyvale and 50 at or near Menlo Park, effective March 20. Western Digital Technologies cut 47 jobs at its South San Jose headquarters on Jan. 27, after reporting an earlier reduction of 87 positions on Jan. 20. Meta previously informed the state it would eliminate 219 jobs in Burlingame on March 20. The job changes were reported to the California Employment Development Department. Seasonal EDD data analyzed by Beacon Economics showed the Bay Area added 200 tech jobs in December, driven by a South Bay gain of 1,800 roles while other subregions lost jobs.
