"I'm obviously very concerned about all homicides, but this one in particular sticks out to me as concerning because it's brazen in that it's the middle of the daytime and it's in a restaurant where an employee is working in the middle of a shopping district,"
"It is very important that people who live in Richmond and who visit Richmond feel safe to go out, eat and shop in our city."
"Following a tragic incident at our Richmond, CA, location that resulted in the passing of a team member, we are currently focused on caring for our restaurant team and supporting the family,"
"Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone impacted."
Richmond police responded at about 1:43 p.m. to reports of an injured person at the IHOP on the 3400 block of Klose Way. The injuries did not appear to be accidental, and an unnamed Hispanic man in his 30s was found on the kitchen floor with at least one gunshot wound and died at the scene. Richmond Police Chief Tim Simmons described the killing as brazen because it occurred in daytime at a restaurant in a shopping district and urged that residents and visitors feel safe to go out. Police have not released the victim's identity or any person of interest. IHOP stated it is supporting the restaurant team and the family. The death is Richmond's sixth homicide of the year; anyone with information is asked to call 510-233-1214.
