Police have not yet released the names of the 55-year-old man killed or the man who was arrested. The two-vehicle collision happened about 7:04 p.m. Sunday in the 4400 block of Oakport Street near the on-ramp to southbound Interstate 880. According to initial police reports, the 55-year-old man was driving a Nissan pickup truck eastbound on Oakport Street attempting to enter the freeway."
"The other man, who police said was unlicensed, was driving a Nissan Altima westbound on Oakport Street and failed to yield to the pickup truck before the vehicles collided, authorities said. At about 7:04 p.m. Sunday, a two-vehicle collision on the 4400 block of Oakport Street in East Oakland near the southbound I-880 on-ramp left a 55-year-old man dead. The 55-year-old was driving a Nissan pickup eastbound attempting to enter the freeway when a westbound Nissan Altima, driven by an unlicensed man, failed to yield and struck the pickup. The 55-year-old died at the scene. The Altima driver remained at the scene and was arrested; charges have not been announced. The collision is under investigation.
