Police arrested an 81-year-old man in San Francisco on suspicion of killing his wife and dumping her body in the bay in 1982. Patrick Vincent Galvani, a former computer programmer, has been charged with the murder of Nancy Galvani, a 36-year-old social worker. On Aug. 9, 1982, fishermen found Nancy's naked body wrapped in a sleeping bag under the San Mateo Bridge; she was tied to a cinder block, bound at the ankles, and strangled. Nancy had moved with her 5-year-old daughter to a women's shelter after leaving her husband and had filed a restraining order accusing Patrick of attempted suffocation and assault. The couple had a temporary custody arrangement for their daughter, and their daughter Alison later led a yearslong effort to persuade prosecutors to bring charges. Investigators obtained a warrant and found Nancy's 1973 Buick Apollo in the family garage.
