Hundreds of flights delayed, canceled at Logan amid forceful winds

"As strong winds gust into Boston on Tuesday, hundreds of flights in and out of Logan Airport are facing delays and cancellations. More than 200 flights were delayed coming in or out of Boston, according to FlightAware, the world's largest flight tracking platform. As of 6 p.m. Tuesday, 70 flights meant to be arriving at or leaving Logan Airport were canceled, and more than 220 are facing delays."

"Of the 70 cancellations, 65 were flights through airline CapeAir, "who operate very small aircraft," a spokesperson for the Massachusetts Port Authority told Boston.com. Mehigan attributed the delays and cancellations at Logan "to wind and weather across the country." "Whenever there is questionable weather either in Boston or at their destination, we recommend passengers check with their airline before coming to Logan," MassPort spokesperson Jennifer Mehigan said."

"A quarter of the delayed flights, more than 60, are JetBlue flights, while 40 are Delta Air Lines and 30 are Republic, according to FlightAware. CapeAir, which is based in Hyannis, issued a travel alert Tuesday evening at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday's all-day winds were expected to reach 50 miles per hour, meteorologists said. The region is also likely to see some snow flurries overnight Wednesday into the new year."
