""This is an area where we're finally catching up,""
""Riding Muni today is even easier,""
""It's just in time for holiday tourism. Muni is a great way to get around.""
""It improves the customer experience. Riders say it's transformational.""
Clipper II enables direct credit-card tap payment on Muni, Caltrain, AC Transit, BART, and most Bay Area transit agencies, eliminating the need for special cards or apps. BART began the system in August, and 11 percent of BART riders now use tap-and-ride, improving the customer experience. Unified payments provide transfer savings up to $2.85 per transfer, which can amount to about $1,500 annually for some daily commuters between Oakland and San Francisco. Seamless Bay Area and the Transbay Coalition created a fare calculator to estimate savings. Clipper II was built by Cubic Transportation Systems.
