A 32,000 square foot modular home factory on Boulder Valley School District land provides hands-on construction training and course credit to high school students. The city of Boulder built the facility for $13 million with federal, state and private foundation grants and loans. The local Habitat for Humanity chapter manages the program in partnership with the school district and the city, a three-way arrangement described as the first of its kind. The factory opened in February. In November the first two homes were trucked to Ponderosa Mobile Home Park and hoisted onto foundations. The initiative connects workforce training to local housing upgrades.
