The shooting exposed poor farmworker living and housing conditions and prompted local response. Nearly 50 homes have been built in San Mateo County through a partnership between Half Moon Bay and the county. The city is pursuing a permanent memorial but has not yet secured funding. Survivor Pedro Romero Perez lost his brother Jose and survived five gunshot wounds; he is learning accordion as part of music therapy with ALAS. Local groups continue advocating for housing, mental health services, and support for farmworkers.
