On September 26, Brentwood police responded to a family dispute involving 72-year-old Yolanda Ramirez and her sister. Officers cuffed Ramirez after she moved toward her vehicle and placed her in a patrol car. Neighbors reported officers left Ramirez alone in the vehicle for more than 30 minutes while police later said she appeared to be having a medical issue and they contacted medical personnel. Ramirez was taken off life support the following week. Her vehicle was towed with willful resistance listed as the reason. Family, friends, and community members rallied at a council meeting demanding answers and alleging unequal treatment.
