Cape Cod man convicted of threatening state Rep. Steve Xiarhos
""Tell your tyrant to reel it in or the people will burn your house, office and tar and feather you in the streets of Hyannis," the threat said. "I will not support you or your trumpism. This is a warning of what the people are saying.""
""I would like to thank District Attorney Galibois and his highly competent staff for their assistance," Xiarhos said in a statement released by the DA. "I am pleased that justice has been served in the form of a conviction and I am looking forward to moving on from this very disturbing incident.""
""There are no rules so I am on the edge with the rest of the country. Don't be surprised when I stand up to authority. Thank Trump for blatantly disregard for the following financi...""
James Spence, 63, of Dennis was convicted of threatening to commit arson after posting an online message that threatened state Representative Steve Xiarhos. The threat explicitly said people would burn Xiarhos's house and office and tar and feather him in Hyannis. Barnstable police began investigating in February after Xiarhos shared a screenshot from a Sandwich News Facebook page. Police identified Spence, who admitted making the threat and was described as calm and apologetic when interviewed. Court records list other posts showing disdain for rules and statements about standing up to authority. The district attorney announced the conviction and the representative expressed relief.
