Thirty-one construction workers were successfully rescued after a portion of an industrial tunnel in Los Angeles collapsed. Officials initially feared that the situation would have much worse outcomes. The collapse occurred between the tunnel boring machine and the workers, who were about 400 feet underground. Despite scrambling over 12 feet of loose soil, the workers were able to reach the boring machine and were lifted to safety using a crane. None sustained major injuries. Officials praised the workers for their composure during the crisis.

The workers scrambled over loose soil more than 12 feet high to reach the tunnel boring machine and were soon transported back to the surface.
None of those rescued had major injuries, and the workers had kept calm and secured themselves during the incident, demonstrating remarkable composure.
Mayor Karen Bass expressed relief, stating that upon arrival she was concerned about finding tragedy, but was instead pleased to find victory as all workers were safe.
