Business and Technology stories spanned a variety of topics around power, money and transparency, including a focus on Trump-era fiscal policies, tariffs and defense ambitions; playful explorations of zoo escapes; analysis of AI's writing style; and a deep dive into TikTok subcultures."
""We worked really hard to present the complex data analysis behind the map in a way that was easy to understand. So instead of showing the complete map at the beginning, we started at the level of individual videos and zoomed out. That way, by the time the reader sees the map, they know what they're looking at." - Joe Fox Design and development by Leslie Shapiro and Joe Fox."
Designers, developers, graphics reporters, editors and art directors from The Washington Post's Design, Graphics and Opinions teams created more than 300 visual stories in 2025. Coverage included Business and Technology stories about power, money, transparency, Trump-era fiscal policies, tariffs, defense ambitions, and AI's writing style. Visual projects ranged from interactive tax and budget simulations to playful examinations of zoo escapes and examinations of TikTok subcultures, including a TikTok hashtag explorer. Graphics credits and design teams are noted for individual projects, and interactive presentation techniques emphasized progressive disclosure and reader exploration.
