Trump hits back at Republican Senate majority leader over Save America act

"We don't have the votes, either to proceed [to] a talking filibuster nor to sustain one if we got one, Thune said Tuesday at a press conference. That's just a function of math. There isn't anything I can do about that."

Trump demanded Senate Majority Leader John Thune alter chamber rules to enable a vote on the Save America act, a comprehensive bill that would significantly modify election procedures. The House passed a version, but the Senate lacks the 60 votes required to overcome the filibuster rule. Conservative supporters urged Thune to implement a talking filibuster, forcing Democrats to actively block the measure. Thune rejected this approach, stating the mathematics simply don't support either proceeding with or sustaining a talking filibuster. He committed to bringing the bill to a floor vote but acknowledged he cannot guarantee passage. Trump countered that Thune must find the necessary votes regardless. Trump also indicated he would withhold signature from other legislation until the Save America act reaches his desk, and wants additional provisions added, including mail voting restrictions.
