Mapped: The areas threatened by Reform's controversial pro-fracking agenda revealed
"From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging."
"At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story. The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it."
"More than 180 constituencies are threatened by Reform UK's controversial pro-fracking agenda, new research has revealed. The analysis by Friends of the Earth this week identifies the parliamentary areas that could be vulnerable to development for fracking if Nigel Farage's party were to get into government. A total of 187 constituencies are partially or totally within areas the British Geological Society has labelled Shale Prospective Areas' locales where specific geologic conditions exist that could make fracking viable according to the environmental justice organisation."
The Independent covers reproductive rights, climate change and technology while producing documentaries like 'The A Word' and investigating political funding. The outlet refuses paywalls and solicits donations to fund reporters to cover both sides and reach a broad political audience. Friends of the Earth analysis identifies 187 constituencies within British Geological Society Shale Prospective Areas where fracking could be viable. Of these, 141 are Labour, 25 Conservative, 15 Liberal Democrat and 2 Reform constituencies. Large swathes of Scotland, the North of England, the Midlands and the South could be affected. Named MPs include Angela Rayner, Lee Anderson and Ed Miliband. Mapping shows shale proportions by constituency.
