Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the full extent of Lord Peter Mandelson's relationship with Jeffrey Epstein was not previously known and described its depth as darkness. He said Mandelson was asked directly about contact after Epstein's conviction and about accepting gifts, and that the available information shows Mandelson lied. Starmer stated he dismissed Mandelson because such deceit is incompatible with public service. He apologised to Epstein's victims for their trauma, for power figures failing them, and for appointing Mandelson. Starmer vowed to continue as Prime Minister and to pursue truth and uphold public integrity.
