Help to cut baby formula costs could save parents up to 500, Starmer says
"For too long, parents have been pushed into spending more on infant formula than needed told they're paying for better quality and left hundreds of pounds out of pocket, he said. I can announce today we are changing that. We will take action to give parents and carers the confidence to access infant formula at more affordable prices."
"Their policy of nearly 10 years on the two-child benefit cap had one result and one result only it dragged hundreds of thousands of children into poverty. They should be utterly ashamed of that, and I'm"
The government agreed to implement Competition and Markets Authority recommendations to reduce infant formula costs and inform parents about cheaper, nutritionally identical alternatives such as supermarket own-brand products. Measures include standardised packaging in hospitals and healthcare locations to limit marketing influence on new parents, rules requiring all infant formula products to be displayed together in shops, and permitting gift cards, vouchers, loyalty points and coupons for formula purchases. The changes follow the recent removal of the two-child benefit limit and aim to save parents up to £500 in a child's first year while increasing access to affordable options.
