"The DNA from hundreds of Palestine Action activists is being used by cold case detectives to potentially solve crimes committed by themselves and family members many years ago, it can be revealed. In what some describe as a golden era for DNA in this country, while protesters are in custody forensic swabs are taken and searched against a national database of samples from unsolved offences. Some took place decades ago."
"Retired Detective Chief Inspector Chris Phillips, ex-head of the National Counter Terrorism Security Office, added: These youngsters and some older people think supporting Palestine Action is a great idea, it's not - and they can't say they weren't warned. The consequences for the rest of their lives are plainly spelled out and that goes for family members. They are foolish and getting carried away on a tidal wave of stupidity."
DNA from hundreds of Palestine Action activists is being used by cold case detectives to potentially solve crimes committed by themselves and family members many years ago. While protesters are in custody, forensic swabs are taken and searched against a national database of samples from unsolved offences, some of which date back decades. The pioneering technique known as familial DNA has cleared hundreds of crimes worldwide, including murder and rape. DNA is inherited and biological relatives share aspects of the same genetic code. Police state DNA submissions are reviewed for forensic opportunities and will be pursued when available. Retired officers warned of lasting consequences for protesters and their family members and expressed support for expanding the DNA database to solve crime.
