'British police arrested us for carrying signs on pizza boxes' - Irish men facing charges under terrorism legislation
"Harry O'Donoghue (24) from Murphystown, south Dublin and Oisin McAnenna (23) from Cavan, were arrested under anti-terrorism laws in London on September 7. The two hospitality workers had been holding aloft pizza boxes with the words they "oppose genocide" and support PA. They said the pizza boxes were kept by police as "evidence," as the two await a court date."
"Custodial sentences of up to 14 years could be imposed on protesters who've supported PA, due to the British State's proscription of the group as a terrorist organisation earlier this year. The friends work in the bar and restaurant trade in London and attended a rally in the city organised by Defend Our Juries, as they opposed the Israeli military bombardment and blockade of Gaza and felt the proscription of PA was wrong."
Harry O'Donoghue (24) from Murphystown, south Dublin and Oisin McAnenna (23) from Cavan were arrested in London on September 7 under anti-terrorism laws after attending a rally. The two hospitality workers held pizza boxes reading "oppose genocide" and "support PA", which police seized as evidence. The British State proscribed PA as a terrorist organisation earlier this year, exposing supporters to possible custodial sentences of up to 14 years. The men attended a Defend Our Juries rally opposing the Israeli bombardment and blockade of Gaza and claim protection under the ICCPR for free expression. They are calling on the Irish Government to seek the charges be dropped and say at least 13 Irish people have been arrested.
