Andrew Rhodes will step down as chief executive of the UK Gambling Commission on 30 April 2026 after almost five years in post. Grainne Hurst, CEO of the Betting and Gaming Council, thanked Rhodes for his professionalism, hands-on engagement with the industry, and fostering a more informed working relationship despite differing views. The commission under Rhodes implemented measures arising from the Gambling Act Review and Gambling Survey, including financial vulnerability checks, reducing the intensity of online games, and banning certain potentially harmful marketing offers. Rhodes described leading the commission through an important period of change and expressed pride in strengthening regulation and improving consumer protections.
